Our Manifesto

The Gurus want us to keep quietGurus Go Home was originally a jokey idea mentioned on the Webel Blog - when I was discussing all those back to back ’super’ launches by ( to name just a few) Stompernet, Frank Kern, Howie Schwarz, Ebel Pagan and on and on ON!

Who are these people and why do I listen to them, read them and stay subscribed to their e-mail list?

As I imagine you do too, I watch in disbelief as they talk of their 2/5/10,000 dollar seminars and training courses. There $500+ a month membership sites.

I remember the days when most of them were selling e-books for $27 ( then $47, then $97).

It’s apparent that the latest Guru tactic is to sell 1000 people a $3000+ course or conference rather than a downloadable product to 10,000. When you do the math it’s easy to see why.

It doesn’t mean that I can’t see through the snake oil mentality behind so much selling on the internet, especially in the IM niche.

Has any of the following started to annoy you:

  • How the so called big names seem to take turns promoting to each others lists and split the proceeds? When you only need 500 or so punters to sign up to generate a million dollar plus pay day you can see how profitable this is. It also means sign-ups are paying two fees not one.
  • How their servers are constantly ‘melting’ or ‘blowing up’ due to the demand? From a thousand sign-ups/enquiries? Pur-lease!
  • How the doors will “stay open another 48 hours” because of the above?
  • How videos of said high ticket seminars are often sold just days after the event to further boost their coffers. That would certainly piss me off if I’d just shelled out a few grand and the ‘best of’ videos were being sold for a hundred bucks the following week!
  • How the latest ’sales techniques’ are suddenly used by them all ( free stuff, promote scarcity, build relationships yadda yadda)? Is it really any different than that used by any salesman?
  • The ” I’m an anti guru” sales pitch? The “I used to be just like you” sales blurb?
  • How they are all offering their old crap as bonuses if you sign up for their J.V. buddies new crap?
  • Are you getting abit tired of the ‘relationship’ building mails? “Hey, I care about you and your future, if I recommend something to you it’s the real deal, I’m not like those other bastards!”

What many Gurus realise is that smart people know that they are peddling recycled marketing stuff. Sure there’s a ton of information to learn in Marketing and Selling online - so go buy a book! Ditto re getting organised, setting goals or motivating yourself - go by a book!

I’m pretty sure a lot of them also think they need to milk those gullible cow big time as a hedge against the day when nobody buys their BS anymore. Face it - we, communitavely are a gaggle of golden egg laying geese! Two farmyard analogies for the price of one there for you!

There are no secrets!

Conferences and the like are great for bonding with your peers, networking and even getting inspired but don’t tell me that you will discover some amazing technique or system THAT IS NOT ALREADY COMMON KNOWLEDGE! Even if nobody else had heard about the latest way to pull the wool over Google’s eyes how long will it be effective? Once the word’s out everyone will be at it and then Google will nip it in the bud.

Sure I’m envious of their beach front properties and the shiny cars in their garages but what does that prove to me? That they are making a lot of money, sure, but is it by doing what they are teaching or by selling the dream?

OK, I’ll admit to the very occasional exception to the rule, I’ve nothing against motivational speakers, but that’s the best you’ll get from me.

My biggest bugbear is the amount of time I waste watching their extended sales pitches, sometimes over weeks ( yet another technique)! I know I won’t be buying into their product so why bother watching the sales pitch? Fear! That’s why! The nigglinging doubt at the back of the mind that there is just one bit of knowledge I need and then the door to riches will open. The fear that if I don’t view their sales videos that I’ll miss the ‘Open Sesame’ moment when I am, finally, admitted to the treasure filled cave and can fill my pockets.

The Guru as a Genie? There’s an analogy, back into your lamp buddy and no more wishful thinking ( or rubbing of your genie lamp) …

“I’m unsubscribing… dude!” is our credo and manifesto.

Why not make it yours?
